Dolby Laboratories, Inc. is an American company specializing in audio noise reduction and audio encoding/compression- technologies it then licenses to consumer electronics manufacturers. Dolby Labs was originally founded by American Ray Dolby in Great Britain in 1965, but he moved the company to San Francisco, CA in 1976. They're most well known in the general public for their technologies in Digital Cinema, such as Dolby 3D.
