SFRM Entrance 2007

The entrance of the museum

The San Francisco Railway Museum features exhibits on the antique streetcars of the F Market & Wharves and cable cars that continue to operate to this day. The small museum has free admission and is located at the Steuart Street F line stop, across the street from the Ferry Building.

The museum features a permanent collection of San Francisco railway artifacts from Market Street Railway Company and San Francisco Municipal Railway, as well as unique exhibits that periodically change. Another highlight is a replica of the motorman’s platform of a 1911 San Francisco streetcar, featuring a complete set of authentic operating equipment.

The museum is a project of the nonprofit Market Street Railway, Muni’s historic transportation advocacy group. Its hours of operation are 10 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday through Sunday.
